The Pierces - Boy in a Rock and Roll Band
Favorite lyrics: I take home pretty things that I like
And baby, you are so fine
Yeah, I could give you everything you need
With just one touch of my hand
But I swore I would never fall in love
With a boy in a rock & roll band
This song has a very old, jazzy feel to it that's really seductive and unique. What's so good about The Pierces is that their music varies, but it all has that same mysterious feel to it. Something like Sticks and Stones, which has an awesome music video, has a dark twist. Their music in general has a smoky edge that's completely tantalizing.
Reminds us of: ? You tell us. It's not duplicable.

Stateless - Bloodstream
There's a haunting edge to the Stateless' singing. It mixes styles of music and instruments and then assaults your ears with them. It burns your mind, sears it with a voice that's both pure and completely devilish. It has an obsession in it that's directly replicated by the amount of times you'll listen to it.

Melt - Nicole Simone
Favorite lyrics: Please let me melt your heart. I've got to save the world from loving you.
This song is pure sultry goodness. We both got goosebumps when we listened to it; there's desperation, betrayal, desire. There's layers piled under layers in this song, and each one of them made us shiver. This song chilled us. And definitely melted our hearts.
Reminds us of: A female Tom Waits. Majorly.

Farther Down - Neon Trees
Link.
Favorite lyrics: I'm a mistake faking truth holding liars balloons. Make me fly for something more. I wanna shake up your system. I wanna rattle your bones. I wanna take you to the stars and then I'll leave you alone. I've gone farther down than I ever wanna go. We stood out in the cold, and your eyes they ate my soul.
Neon Trees is one of our favorite bands. We've seen them live, listened to them relentlessly, and sang their lyrics at the top of our lungs. They work the crowd and make shows really personal, which is rare and which we love. Tyler Glenn's got a voice and the band (especially the BA chick drummer!) is incredibly talented. This is different than their usual, more hyped-up songs, but it hits us hard.
Reminds us of: Safetysuit / The Fray. But better.

Serpentine - Chris Bathgate
Link.
Favorite lyric: Does my name sting your tongue? Now does it beg?
You know the kind of singing that has an entire life living in the melody? The kind that cries and laughs and breathes? That's Chris Bathgate's voice. I swear it's alive, by itself. And the instrumental behind that voice is completely charming. It's a very soft, sweet song, but it has a lot of passion in it.

You Got Me by Crash Kings

Favorite lyrics: You look around, look around but you're looking for excuses. I think you got me where you want me, woman.
Listen to: when you're lookin' fly. Definitely while wearing sunglasses.

Monster - Bon Voyage
Link.
Favorite lyrics: I wish I was a monster, I would hide under the stairs. I wish I was a nightmare. I'd give you a scare. Shake up that monotony so you could feel something like surprise.
This song has a hugely ethereal, dreamy feel to it. The lyrics are edgy and make you want to dance, but her voice is also sleep personified. It's hard to manage music that pumps you up and puts you to sleep within the same song, but Bon Voyage aces it. Definitely car-blasting material.
Listen to: at 3am, when you want to feel BA.

Woodblock by Joe Gil
Link.
Favorite lyrics:
Cause I'm broken,
and I'm sinking,
I'm a shipwreck off to sea,
and I'm begging,
for some answers,
I'm a poor man in need,
and I'm searching,
I've found nothing,
I'm a blind man trying to see,
I'm a woodblock,
praying please just carve me.
The lyrics to this song are basically a metaphorical poem of something that's pretty common to humanity. It's a story of being lost, of waiting for someone to help you be who you're supposed to be. But the way Joe Gil sings it, that thought becomes something tangent. It's both tragic and happy-making, and his voice makes angels cry. It's a very relaxed, mellow song, but it's something you can still groove to.

A sparkling addition.
Today is the launch of our music site, The Glitter Pox. 1/1/11. You may be wondering who the hell we are, and if we knew we'd tell you. We'll try. Emili and Chelsea. Those are our names, though that doesn't tell you who we are. You can figure that one out for yourselves.
We're varied in our music taste; we don't adhere to one label or genre. We like music that makes our blood boil; the kind that yells into our lungs and takes over our bodies.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, we'll post about music we discover and concerts we catch. If you'd like to email us about music recommendations or anything else, you can find us at theglitterpox@gmail.com. We'd love to hear from you.
We call ourselves The Glitter Pox because we're utterly contagious. We spread mania like a disease. Feel free to join our pox party.
We hope you catch it,
